Have you ever wondered how decisions get made in the gulf? By being a Gulf Athlete Representative, you can have a bigger involvement in your local swim committee (LSC). This may all seem daunting, but it’s really not as scary as it sounds.
We are looking for 2 athletes per team to represent the swimmers on that club. All of these athletes serve on committees (banquet, technical planning, open water, program development, finance, safe sport, volunteer, and the officials committee. Then, there are elected positions – junior representatives and senior representatives. The elected athletes are heads of the committee and we have the responsibility to spread info to you and the other athletes.
There are House of Delegate meetings where the board presents things that they have worked on to a big group of people for confirmation. Board of Directors meetings are more frequent and they consist of various committees presenting what they have been working on for confirmation. Your job is to participate on a committee and give input from an athlete’s perspective and attend both house and board meetings. You must also let your team know about any important information that you learn about from these meetings.
If you are interested in being an athlete rep, talk to your coach. If they give you permission, email the Gulf Swimmer Reps (firstname.lastname@example.org) with your coaches approval and tell us what committees you want to be on!
